Carbon Balanced Business

As of December 2021, The Encore Group are thrilled to have become a Certified Carbon Balance Printer and the UK’s first and only Carbon Balanced envelope manufacturer by helping the World Land Trust to protect and restore critically threatened habitat around the world.

The World Land Trust (WLT) are an international conservation charity (charity no. 1001291) that protects the world’s most biologically significant and threatened habitats acre by acre. Since it was founded in 1989, the charity has protected 2.3 million acres of land in 25 countries.

The contributions made by Carbon Balanced businesses are used to protect land from deforestation and degradation to help prevent the release of CO2 into the atmosphere. All of the WLT forest protection and restoration projects have measurable, long term local community benefits, a positive climate impact and significant conservation value.

“The money that is given to the World Land Trust, in my estimation, has more effect on the wild world than almost anything I can think of”

Sir David Attenborough

The work of the WLT is actively supported by their passionate and dedicated patrons. Sir David Attenborough, WLT patron, says of the charity, “The money that is given to the World Land Trust, in my estimation, has more effect on the wild world than almost anything I can think of”.

There are now 48 Carbon Balanced Printers across the UK and Ireland, offsetting a combined 16,000 tonnes of carbon every year.  To date, 250,000 tonnes of CO2 have been offset through the Carbon Balanced Print and Paper programme, that is the equivalent of taking over 89,000 cars off the road for a year.

In order to gain the certification, Encore’s operational carbon emissions have been measured and verified by a 3rd party. Becoming a Carbon Balanced Printer means The Encore Group has offset 1,955 tonnes of CO2, funding the protection of 48,468m2 of threatened habitat in WLT’s VCS-verified project in Guatemala.

The Encore Group recognise the essential need to reduce avoidable emissions where possible. In 2020, by choosing a zero-carbon electricity tariff, our operational carbon emissions were reduced by 89%. To further limit our impact on the environment, we only use water-based inks and glues, which have a much lesser impact on the environment than solvents, and 100% of our waste is recycled.

Carbon Balanced Print and Packaging is a simple choice that will help meet the growing expectations of all stakeholders.  By tackling carbon, reducing deforestation and protecting threatened species, businesses choosing Carbon Balancing can confidentially meet the needs of their customers, their own environmental commitments and the planet.

Working with us to make your project Carbon Balanced can help reduce carbon impacts and provide customers with the communications tools to build positive awareness amongst their own customer base.
